Homework 27/1/12 Due on Wed 1st Feb

Hi all,

Here's your homework:

Re-read the question on the previous blog and remind yourself of the Band 3 criteria on the mark scheme.

Plan a response to the essay question (including relevant quotations and links to historical context).

You need to refer to the relationship between George and Lennie and compare it to the lonely characters in the novel.

Other questions to consider are:

What are the effects of loneliness on the other characters?
How far are George and Lennie still lonely even though they still have each other?
What is the impact of the end of the novel (this will help to hit the criteria for structure in the mark scheme).

You will need to have this plan ready for Wednesday's lesson.

Have a lovely weekend. See you on Monday!

Of Mice and Men Question and Mark Scheme

Hi all,

This is the question for the controlled assessment task:

‘Guys like us are the loneliest guys in the world.’ How far does Steinbeck’s presentation of the relationship between George and Lennie challenge this idea?

The mark scheme can be found on page 21 at the following link:

Remember that we are aiming for at least a band 3 response!

Of Mice and Men Context Youtube clip

Here's the link to the context youtube clip that we used in class the other day. Remember that you must weave historical context into your essay to meet the criteria for the C grade.

Of Mice and Men text online

Hi all,

You can find an online version of Of Mice and Men at the following link:

http://www.shipk12.org/web/filemgmt_data/files/Steinbeck_-_Of_Mice_and_Men.pdf

This is the perfect way to find quotations. For example, if you press ctrl and F at the same time (find) and type in 'lone', you will find 20 relevant quotations!

Welcome to the Year 11 Blog

Good evening!

Welcome to the first ever Fullhurst English Blog. I'm hoping that on this site students will interact and share ideas about all the different areas of the GCSE English qualification.

To start with, this blog will be trialled with 11En3 (you guys). If it's useful, then I'm planning to open it up to the rest of the year 11 cohort.

Anyway, I'd like you to ponder the following question and add your comments...

Does George need Lennie more than Lennie needs George?

I'll be checking the contributions to the blog, so do me proud!

Miss R :-)
