Homework 27/1/12 Due on Wed 1st Feb

Hi all,

Here's your homework:

Re-read the question on the previous blog and remind yourself of the Band 3 criteria on the mark scheme.

Plan a response to the essay question (including relevant quotations and links to historical context).

You need to refer to the relationship between George and Lennie and compare it to the lonely characters in the novel.

Other questions to consider are:

What are the effects of loneliness on the other characters?
How far are George and Lennie still lonely even though they still have each other?
What is the impact of the end of the novel (this will help to hit the criteria for structure in the mark scheme).

You will need to have this plan ready for Wednesday's lesson.

Have a lovely weekend. See you on Monday!

Miss R :-)

  1. Don't panic Sacha. It's not as hard as it first appears - you just need to break it down.

This is how I would attempt it:

Create a spider diagram with loneliness in the middle and around the outside, in no particular order, write down as many ideas as you can.

Take the best 6/7 ideas and these will form your 6/7 main paragraphs.

Create a table with 3 columns headed: Point, Analysis, Quotations.

Put your first idea into the point column. Refer back to your spider diagram - is there anything else in there that links to this idea ot is there anything else you can think of that links to the main point? Put these ideas into the Analysis column and then find quotations (if you can) that back up your ideas (if you get stuck for quotations, I can help you).

Do this for all your main point and VOILA plan complete!

If you're still struggling, do as much as you can and I'll help you on Monday.

Message me back on here over the weekend if you want to - I'll be checking the blog regularly in case anyone needs any help.

  3. No Liman. There's no need for you to write the essay. I want you to plan what you will write when you do the essay under controlled conditions. Use the steps above and see how you get on. You're looking for about 6 or 7 paragraphs.

  5. Of course I'll help you Liman but I still want you to give it a go - don't give up and say you can't do it before you've given it a go. Use the steps that I've highlighted to Sacha and see how far you get. Bring in what you've managed to do tomorrow and we'll go through it during registration.

    1. Sach george palying solitair shows that he is loniy, this cuz solitair can be played on ur own. this is tells us that even tho he has lennie, george is stil lonily

    2. An excellent question Sacha and an excellent response Liman! It also suggests that at times George wants to be lonely - he usually plays solitaire when he is thinking!

do we need only to highlight about george and lennie and not any other charactor?

    1. Hi Rajith. If you look at the question it asks how far George and Lennie's relationship challenges the idea of the lonely itinerant worker. You must look at other characters as well (Crooks, Curley's Wife, Candy) and compare them to George and Lennie.

      Hope this helps.
