Welcome to the Year 11 Blog

Good evening!

Welcome to the first ever Fullhurst English Blog. I'm hoping that on this site students will interact and share ideas about all the different areas of the GCSE English qualification.

To start with, this blog will be trialled with 11En3 (you guys). If it's useful, then I'm planning to open it up to the rest of the year 11 cohort.

Anyway, I'd like you to ponder the following question and add your comments...

Does George need Lennie more than Lennie needs George?

I'll be checking the contributions to the blog, so do me proud!

Miss R :-)

    1. Interestingly written!

Why is it that you think Lennie won't feel the same loneliness that George would feel?

Can you find any examples where the typical itinerant workers show a lack of trust?

Well done for being the first person to comment Albanianmessi.

    2. the typical itinerant worker wud be slim this cuz he has no emosion, when he killt the dog, and he is to stuk up to his work, which proves he has bin an itinerant worker for a long time,
Also i fink that lenie also needs george as he dont understand bout life and needs help, but he trys to hide it by saying 'george jst say it and il leave' showing that he don't care.

      P.S. cheers mis

    3. Try not to confuse the characters. It is Carlson that kills Candy's dog.

I like that you are looking at this idea from both sides :-)

  2. They need each other equal amount, I think.
The reason for this is because, obviously George doesn't want to be lonely, so therefore is a reason to need Lennie.
But on the other hand, Lennie needs George, because he isn't 100% all there, so maybe he uses George as a guide?
    My opinion anyway :)

    1. Interesting comments Ellen.

I agree that George does not want to be lonely, but why do you think he specifically wants Lennie? Why not Slim or Candy or Crooks for example?

  3. Because he's known Lennie longer than he has known Slim, Candy and the Crooks.
He knows what Lennie is capable of.

  4. I think that George needs Lennie more than Lennie needs George, because George is the type of person who wants Lennie to be there so he doesn't get lonely but he doesn't want to admit it, so that is why that when Lennie says to George that he will go find a cave to live, George doesn't let him go, because George needs a companion to stop him from being a typical itinerant worker. :)

    1. But chloe, if George needs Lennie more. What's the reason for him to kill Lennie?

    2. George kills Lennie to stop him from getting into more trouble, because Lennie has done a load of terrible things and he can't go on getting away from it tbh.

    3. Yeah I get what you mean. But like, if my 'best friend' got into trouble, the last thing i'd do is kill them. I'm not saying your wrong.

    4. Ellen and Chloe, I'm so pleased that you have engaged in this dialogue. This is exactly why this blog was set up - so you can challenge each other's ideas. Well done!

  5. Yeah I know what you mean Ellen, but George must of done it for a reason, maybe he thought that he was doing right by Lennie, because in my opinion I think that Lennie if he was still alive thenhe would do stuff a lot worse than he has done.
    Thank-you Miss :D

    1. Maybe George only killed Lennie to keep hiself out of trouble, because if he backed Lennie up about killing Curleys wife, then both of them would be in deep doodoo!:)

    2. Erm, I suppose you could put it that way. He never had to kill him. If I was in that situation, then I'd just quickly find my friend, do a runner&be done with it.

    3. Even though Lennie's acts of violence got more and more serious as the novel progressed? If George had not killed Lennie, and let him escape, wouldn't George then be responsible for the inevitable next death given that "Lennie knows no rules"...?

    4. Maybe he had no choice into killing Lennie. George might want to progress his dreams without Lennie being a latch on.

  6. rajith: George and lennie travels together because they look after each other. However George understand the loneiness of being an iterant workers. Moreover, the iterant workers who travel for work, would have no friend and further be loney without any one to talk with.Geroge is the only one of his own as he has no family just like Lennie. Geroge finds Lennie as a nusience but he gives him to prevent his loneiness although Lennie may not be seen as loney because he don't understand the difference.

    1. Very good comments here Rajith - you show very good understanding of the characters. If George is so desperate not to be lonely though, why does he not still buy the dream farm with Candy as his companion? Let me know your thoughts.

    2. even though he doesn't want to be lonely, it wouldn't be the same without Lennie to share his dream with like George says, 'i want you to stay with me' i think he says this atleast twice it shows that he wants Lennie with him aswell as in there dream of theirs and without him there isn't no point in the dream?
